Matthew Aubin

Dr. Matthew Aubin is Music Director and Executive Director of the Jackson Symphony Orchestra, Music Director of the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra, and Artistic Director of The Chelsea Symphony in New York City. Known for imaginative programming, community engagement, and advocacy for overlooked composers, he has collaborated with artists including Branford Marsalis, John Lithgow, Pascal Rogé, Mahan Esfahani, and Julian Schwarz. Dr. Aubin has appeared as a guest conductor with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, Washington Idaho Symphony, Manchester Symphony Orchestra, and Gotham Winds. His guest-conducting engagements this season include the Lansing Symphony Orchestra, Toledo Symphony Orchestra, and the Symphonic Orchestra of the Teatro da Paz in Belém, Brazil. His work in film and television includes Mozart in the Jungle, Bel Canto, and Younger, as well as concerts and educational initiatives created in partnership with the New York City Department of Correction. He is the founder of the Equal Billing Project and the foremost scholar on French composer Fernande Decruck. He has edited critical editions of her music for Éditions Billaudot and led the first two large-scale recordings devoted to her orchestral works. Dr. Aubin is also a professional horn player, educator, and voting member of the Recording Academy.
