THANK YOU FROM THE EDITOR

The crew and I thought we’d keep this edition short and sweet. Whether you’ve been part of the family for years, or new to KARJAKA our narrative has always been to bring out the ineffable of our clients in our imagery and direction. This online zine/magazine, or whatever you want to call it, has had a mission to not only show off our iconic studio work, but also give a voice to our clients on a larger scale, through readership, design/layout reposting, and highlighting their own business/lives and best practices to help build your empire. 

As I reflect on this 2021 Cover Edition I am humbled by all of you and your support through working with us, wisdom, appreciation and generally speaking, LOVE. It’s been a hell of a year, ups and downs, but in the end speaking for the few dozen freelancers that make this magazine and business possible, we’re thankful for all of you who keep KARJAKA a part of your lives, monthly, daily or otherwise.

Prisoners of Love

Blue skies above, can't keep our hearts in jail... unfortunately. Locked in with loved ones? Perhaps you're going stir crazy in singledom? Hard not to feel the effects of this pandemic. Human family units stuck inside with their other loved ones, their progeny, ready to tear their skin off just to get a few moments alone, outside of washing hands ever 20 minutes. Single apartment inhabitants looking at their palatial 500 square feet of books, DVDs and dishes, that at one time was their fortress of solitude, only to become a prison of their own design.

Artists are always pushing the boundaries. Crossing lines, testing the edge, diving in head first with complete and utter disregard. It takes a bold mind to step out into the unknown. For us at KARJAKA we're always looking into new market places, and our July edition features an art haven that's quintessential New York, The Hamptons. Following the foot steps of Southampton's premier art curator Yubal Márquez Fleites, we feature a day in the life of the man who brings artists' works to the ultimate stage, and the magnificent artists who explore new ground and play their part with inspirational aplomb.

I Brought You These

When I was younger and just starting out in my dating career, I used to bring flowers on first dates not realizing the potential awkwardness that lay ahead. Typical responses: "Oh... thanks..." ... The eye pop and the awkward, "Uh, thanks. Where should I put them?" ... and my personal favorite, immediate sneezing. " 'Are there Bells of Ireland in that arrangement?' 'Yeah, I know you're Irish and thought that you might... you know... think that was cute?' 'I'm wildly allergic.'" At the soon to be ripe old age of 37 I've learned a few thing things, I now bring a camera.
