Letter from the Editor – April 2020: The Digital Producer with Josh Eisenman

“But, soft! What light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun. Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon, who is already sick and pale with grief, that thou her maid art far more fair than she.”

Or in other words… go to the damn window! Yes, the Sun! Shakespeare pens Romeo’s phrase with such eloquence that it bears repeating although perhaps a bit more bluntly. It’s all about the light. It always has been and now that we’re cooped up, it bears repeating with a vengeance.

Get mad as Hell! Go to the Window. I don’t care what you’re photographing… food, you in your favorite sweatpant suit, your dogs doing funny faces, or that newly arranged living room for the twentieth time this week, no sun, no soap. Don’t worry about the quality of the light, or the direction of the sun in relation to your windows that may face NE, SW and the like. Find your light!

And so my friends, I want you to get up, grab your camera phone, hold your breakfast plate firmly in hand, walk to your window, and compose a vision of breakfast beautiful enough to envy Romeo. Shatter that glass dear friends & stay creative.

Letter from the Editor: Vitamin K

With the amount of Vitamin D I've consumed in the past year, I should have gotten stock for it. Prevention, pain relief, these are the basics tenets of any product out on the market. Not getting enough Sun? Go for a walk. Can't go out due to pandemic? 1000mg of Vitamin D, stat.

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR: Love and Door Handles

Today’s Friday PSA: I don’t like having my photo taken either, and I still love to walk through that door. You think you’re critical of your body? Imagine living in observation mode all day everyday day. My face is puffy, my love handles have more handle despite my upper body coming in, my body now hates gluten, dairy, sugar and overall fun, but I’m more flexible than I was at 17 (thanks Craig Thomas) and this and that, yada yada yada.

Do It For You

I'm seeing and hearing this phase more often these days...Just for the 'gram, Instagram that is. In the days of Fake News, we're even more aware of Fake Photos. Instagram "influencers" and even celebrities faking certain locations, vacations, scenes etc, just for the 'gram. We've gotten so wrapped up in visual documentation, we've forgotten, pardon the pun, what quality and authenticity really looks like. Content for the sake of Content. Visual Inundation
