Letter from the Editor – April 2020: The Digital Producer with Josh Eisenman

“But, soft! What light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun. Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon, who is already sick and pale with grief, that thou her maid art far more fair than she.”

Or in other words… go to the damn window! Yes, the Sun! Shakespeare pens Romeo’s phrase with such eloquence that it bears repeating although perhaps a bit more bluntly. It’s all about the light. It always has been and now that we’re cooped up, it bears repeating with a vengeance.

Get mad as Hell! Go to the Window. I don’t care what you’re photographing… food, you in your favorite sweatpant suit, your dogs doing funny faces, or that newly arranged living room for the twentieth time this week, no sun, no soap. Don’t worry about the quality of the light, or the direction of the sun in relation to your windows that may face NE, SW and the like. Find your light!

And so my friends, I want you to get up, grab your camera phone, hold your breakfast plate firmly in hand, walk to your window, and compose a vision of breakfast beautiful enough to envy Romeo. Shatter that glass dear friends & stay creative.

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR: I’ll Take: Staying in New York during the holidays for $500, Alex.

It's that time of year. Pumpkin everything, parades, gift nightmares, travel woes, and family drama. Have I covered it all? Not likely but you get the point. Me, I stick it out here in NYC. Anyone who runs a business, retail or not, knows that this is one of the busier times of the year. Sales this, savings that, charge now/pay later and the like. With that being said, KARJAKA is running full force with all of that and more, no doubt you'll catch a few advertisements in this edition.

The Puppeteer featuring Kat Van Cleave

As you might have noticed, or perhaps not, it's been a minute since our last edition. With the states finally opening up, Summer street and studio session have been in full force. Pepper in a few commercial fashion and food campaigns to boot, prepping KNY's Hamptons edition coming out next month (one you won't want to miss), we thought we'd slow it down just a bit for this edition in the studio with Kat, Russ, Karjaka and choice.

The Cover Issue 2022: Thank You 22.

Some would say this edition is a little late, that Christmas has already passed and we're on to New Years. However, being raised Christian by a Roman Catholic and Orthodox Ukrainian, the 12 days of Christmas takes on longer journey, or in my Father's eyes, the true date of Christmas isn't till January 7th according to the Julian Orthodox calendar. Which makes me wonder if December 25th is the actual date for Christ's birth given that... well anyway, I digress.

Issue 101 – A New Yorker’s Love Letter to LA

Today I turn 40 and it’s time to come clean…I am a cheater. I pray you New York, grant me absolution in this confession that I bring forth. For as much as I’m in love with you NYC, LA is my second love, my mistress. LA, I wander with camera and client your pacific coastline once or twice a year until your love, as with all mistresses, becomes unrequited and my longing for my first true love NYC calls me home.
